Northland 300 Snowmobilers Raise $182,000 Plus for Special Olympics!

Riding for a Reason! Lack of snow didn’t stop Northland 300 snowmobilers from raising funds and riding for a cause near and dear to their heart, Special Olympics Minnesota. Opening Ceremonies held Thursday, January 26 at Superior Shores Resort in Two Harbors kicked off the 24th annual event. Special Olympics athletes from the Two Harbors area ran in the “Flame of Hope” for the first time in 2012. Special Guest Mayor of Two Harbors, Randy Bolen, wished 74 riders well. Jim Glaser sang the National Anthem and Two Harbors American Legion Color Guard were present. A special invocation was given by Father Michael Lyons from Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors. Riders departed in teams, stopping at checkpoints along the way before arriving in Tower where sleds were dropped and the riding began on area lakes and trails.

Announced at Saturday’s evening banquet, 2012 Northland 300 snowmobilers raised $182,456 ($146,022 Cash + $36,434 In-Kind) for Special Olympics Minnesota.
