The DriftToppers Snowmobile club was formed in 1969, by snowmobile enthusiasts from the eastern part of Duluth and the surrounding townships. The eastern trails you ride, from Lester Park near Superior Street, to the North Shore Trail trailhead are the result of the efforts of these individuals. Over the years, we have continued to maintain, upgrade and groom these trails.
As noted above, we are responsible for the trail maintenance and grooming of the Eastern Duluth trail system, and are cooperating in the long process of constructing an 8 mile segment of the Missing Link trail, which will allow snowmobilers to ride from southern points, through the western part of Duluth via the Willard Munger Trail, West Duluth, and Hermantown Trail system, to the North Shore Trail trailhead at Martin Road, without having to go north to Fish Lake. We have completed the first 2 ? miles between the Fish Lake Trail and the intersection of Rice Lake and Martin Road. This addition to our area trail system will greatly enhance the trail riders choices, be it a point to point ride, or a circle route. It is our goal to be connected to the North Shore State Trail, near the Martin Road trailhead in the near future.
The Drift-Toppers own and operate a Tucker Sno-Cat, outfitted with an 8 ? foot Arrowhead drag. This equipment combination provides some of the finest trail surfaces you will find anywhere!
We also groom the southern part of the North Shore Trail on weekends, under a contract with the Minnesota DNR.
One important commitment we have to further the sport of snowmobiling is the training of our youthful operators in safety, courtesy and the laws regulating our sport. DNR Certified Snowmobile Safety Instructors from the Drift-Toppers, working with the Duluth Community Education Program, hold classes annually at Ordean and Woodland schools issuing about 100 youth Snowmobile Safety Certificates per year. These youths are the future of our sport! Without the efforts of these volunteers, local area training would be limited.
We actively support Snowmobiling through:
Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association(Region 7),
Blue Ribbon Coalition,
Duluth Area Assn of Snowmobile Clubs,
Lakes States Resources Alliance, and various other local charities and Recreational Support Groups
We meet the first Tuesday of every month EXCEPT in September when, because of the Labor Day Holiday, we meet the second Tuesday.
Dues are $22 and are due on / before the November meeting. This includes a 1 year membership to MnUSA including their outstanding news magazine. You can't beat that for a deal!
NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED AND WELCOME!!!
