The DriftToppers Snowmobile club was formed in 1969, by snowmobile enthusiasts from the eastern part of Duluth and the surrounding townships. The eastern trails you ride, from Lester Park near Superior Street, to the Rice Lake Trail, to the North Shore Trail trailhead are the result of the efforts of these individuals. Over the years, we have continued to maintain, upgrade and groom these trails. We also groom the southern part of the C.J. Ramstad North Shore Trail on weekends, under a contract with the Minnesota DNR.
In the winter of 2016-17, our dedicated members completed the missing link trail. It is now known as the Rice Lake Trail, running from the C.J. Ramstad North Shore trailhead parking lot at Martin Road and connects to the Fish Lake Trail to the west. This addition to our area trail system has greatly enhanced the trail riders choices, and allows a more direct route up the North Shore from Hermantown, Proctor and West Duluth or to the Willard Munger Shaw trail.
The Drift-Toppers own and operate a 1990 Tucker Sno-Cat, outfitted with an 8 foot Arrowhead drag. This equipment combination provides some of the finest trail surfaces you will find anywhere!
One important commitment we have to further the sport of snowmobiling is the training of our youthful operators in safety, courtesy, and the laws regulating our sport. DNR Certified Snowmobile Safety Instructors from the Drift-Toppers, working with the Duluth Community Education Program, hold classes annually issuing many youth Snowmobile Safety Certificates per year. These youths are the future of our sport! Without the efforts of these volunteers, local area training would be limited.
We actively support Snowmobiling through:
Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association(Region 7), Blue Ribbon Coalition, Duluth Area Assn of Snowmobile Clubs, Lakes States Resources Alliance, and various other local charities and Recreational Support Groups
We meet the first Tuesday of the month (Sept - Apr) EXCEPT in September when, because of the Labor Day Holiday, we meet the second Tuesday. Meetings begin promptly at 7pm. We welcome new members and guests at any of these meetings.
NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED AND WELCOME!!!
