The Loretto Sno-Birds started as a non-profit volunteer organization in 1969.
The Sno-Birds goal is to build and maintain snowmobile trails in the Loretto area with the help of Northwest Trails Association, the Department of Natural Resources and their Grant-in-aid program, and most importantly, the permission of private land owners as well as government agencies. Each year the club must renew the permission for these trails to exist. Additionally, we put out the trail signs before the December 1st trail opening and remove them in April, as well as ensuring the maps are distributed to local establishments.
The club coordinates local member rides, throws a Christmas party with an auction, plays "snowmobile softball" with another snowmobile club, and engages in other formal and informal gatherings where information about the sport and friendship are shared. Family involvement is encouraged. We feel the future of snowmobiling depends on all snowmobilers working together to promote the sport. Being a member of the Loretto Sno-Birds is a way to promote safe, responsible snowmobiling as well as supporting a good trail system. It's a great way to make some new friends and learn more about the sport you enjoy.
Membership is $30.00 per year for individual or family membership. A family membership includes a single person and one guest or a married couple and all children to age 18. The membership fees not only support the Sno-Birds, but also the Northwest Trails and MN USA organizations and are registered members of those organizations.
Meetings are held each 3rd Thursday of the month (September through April) at 8:00pm at the Choo Choo Restaurant and Bar in Loretto. Visitors are most welcome at our meetings. You must be a member to go on any club trips or outings. Just the act of joining is your way to support the local trails and ensure that the sport is not harmed by unfriendly laws. Participation in the club is always a fun and rewarding experience.
